I'm heading to Florida!

Mom is coming back this weekend for a brief two-week hiatus to get some stuff done at home. Then she's got to go back to Florida for another month. My great-aunt's affairs are still up in the air...she doesn't want to be in an assisted living facility, but she can't take care of herself, she doesn't want anyone living with her, she won't move anywhere else where a family member could help her out... It's a bit of a mess.

I'm going to Florida with Mom to help her out for a week (and, to a suck up a little 80 degree weather). Wink This throws my savings and student loan goals off, of course, but I think it's worth it. I haven't seen my mom much lately, and she's completely stressed out with all that's been going on this year. I've never met my great-aunt, and I've been dying for a vacation. It may not end up being the most relaxing vacation in the world, but hopefully my presence will be appreciated.

Time to dig out the summer clothes!

Have a safe trip and a wonderful time with your mom. That's a tough situation with your great-aunt. My grandmother lived in a private assisted living facility for several years and it was really nice. Had an ice cream shop, live music, crafts, birds, movie nights, field trips, dining rooms, sun porches....she had her own little apartment without cooking facilities. Several couples lived in the other parts of the facility. I always thought that might be what I'd like if I needed help. But I'd have to have the money.

Thanks Jan! It is a tough situation. She has the means, and I think she might actually like the company and activities now and then...it's just presenting it to her in a convincing but supportive manner.

It has definitely made me think about what I'll be dealing with in 20-25 years. I'm trying to have some of these conversations with my parents now, while they are still completely lucid and rational!

Wow, have a great trip (or if you're already back, hope you had a great trip...). Hope you come back refreshed!
