10th reunion...gag me

August 4th, 2006 at 04:14 pm

My best friend found our high school class reunion website (the reunion is next summer). The page consists entirely of the "popular girls" and lists their many children, husbands, and photos.

Ugh.

Reading that, I suddenly have absolutely no desire to go. It's a shame that none of the people I'm curious about are listed. Glad to note that I am considered "missing"...think I'll stay that way, if that site represents the people who will be attending the reunion!

Day 8 of our no spend week! Today is our last day. SO packed lunch for ME last night. Smile Tonight we're joining our friends for dinner, and I have some shopping to do, so we're done with no spending for now. SO really agrees that we should do this once a month, though! Who hoo!

Last night I baked a loaf of cinnamon swirl bread...love my breadmaker. It makes the best dough. I think I'll have to make another loaf this weekend, because it smelled heavenly (and I don't think it will last long before being devoured).

Seeing that high school webpage reminded me of just how happy I am with my little life here in MN, with SO and our kitties, far away from that era. Smile

I feel the same way about reunions. Maybe my 20th will appeal to me? Maybe... Wink

I wnet to mine every time, the first few was just like high school. The popular kids didn't speak to you. I went to my 40th and now everyone hugs and kisses you. Go later, you will enjoy them better.
By the way, can I ask what kind of breadmaker you have? I hate mine, the bread has no taste or smell.

I've only been to 1 reunion...and I practically fled it!...they were still rehashing the same old gossip from 10 years ago! ugh!...
I did go to our SCHOOL's 35th anniversary, though, and got to see a lot of people (some from my own class, but also from others) that I wanted to see...
they are gearing up to our 20th reunion next year....I'm still debating whether I should go or not...

I've never had any desire to go to reunions either. I was just telling someone yesterday how much I loved my first job after high school because it was such a different (better) atmosphere than school (for me).

I have ZERO desire to attend my HS reunion. We had 4 cliques in school- the soashes (sp? ie snobs), the surfers/dopers, the nerds and the latinos. I chose to be a non-clique and stayed to myself.

I bumped into an old 'friend' a few years ago (at least 20 years since we graduated) and all she talked about was the 'popular' kids and if I remembered any of them...and when I couldnt recall them...she looked at me like I had two heads... she was clearly 'proud' that she was rubbing elbows with them ?!? Umm...OK?

    Reunions? no thanks.

    Class reunions. Smile

I went to only one, and that was our 30th. I'm sorry to say I enjoyed it, and sorrier still for the malice that entailed. I'm too human not to find satisfaction in the spectacle of former jocks with pot guts and prom queens three kids later. Petty of me, I know, but when the Most-Likely-to-Succeed sells used cars I tend to smile.

Thirty years shuffled the deck dramatically. It was interesting to see the winners and losers and to remember them when . . .

    I never went back.

Count me as one of the missing. I love it that way. The only time it was bad was during my father's funeral, when I was making the standard faux pas of asking how someone was: um, dead.

And for the pleasure of seeing fat jocks...just get a friend with a cell phone and a flickr account. Much, much more frugal.
