CT scan

May 19th, 2006 at 04:38 pm

My chiropractor thinks that I should have a CT scan done because of my headaches. The chiropractic treatment is not really helping them and she is concerned.

I have an irrational fear of that machine. I didn't even realize I had this fear until she told me I should have the test done.

I have no idea if my insurance covers CT scans, and I have to call to find out. Their website will tell me that the estimated cost for a CT scan without insurance is $350-400, but it won't tell me what my actual coverage is with insurance. I have to call a doctor to make an appointment as well.

Ugh...

Have you actually tried pt vs the chiro?

CT scans are not so bad. Ive had a CT and an MRI and I am pretty claustrophobic. I closed my eyes and thought about a favorite memory, IN DEPTH...and it went ok. I hope they determine the cause of those headaches.

My best wishes to you on your job review today! We are all rootin for you!

veronak - do you mean physical therapy? If so, I don't know what that would entail for headaches. I've tried acupuncture, massage, vitamins, and now the chiropractor.

TR - hope you feel better soon! Thanks for the CT scan input and the job review wishes.

Let us know what you end up doing. My daughter had a CT scan to check for a concussion a year or so ago. She was nervous, and it was loud, but I held her hand the whole time and she got through it. No concussion, either, thankfully.

I had PT done for a while to work on my neck, and it helped, but like most things it seemed like it needed to be an on-going thing and wasn't a 'cure'. I think I'm going to get them regardless, but there are ways to lessen their severity and frequency, and that's what I try to focus on. I wish I could go in for weekly massages to deal with the muscle tension that exacerbates things.

Have you tried feverfew, 5HTP, butterbur (sp?), vitex (chasteberry), riboflavin, magnesium, fish oil? Those are (ALL!) things that I take daily.

Have you tried acupressure or acupunture? That can help as well.

Some places have an open CT scanner. The MRI I am not so sure about.
You might ask for a tranquilizer before you go in to have the procedure.

just try to relax and stop worrying, if you can.. all of the previous comments were great.... your headaches could be hormonal...
